Carl King Trial Schedule Remains in Place as He Seeks Private Counsel

The criminal case against a Sequim man facing child exploitation charges remains on track for trial following a status hearing Friday in Clallam County Superior Court.

Carl King, 23, appeared for the brief status hearing, which was presided over by Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brent Basden.

King, who was booked into jail following his April arrest, has been free on bail while awaiting trial.

During the proceeding, King’s defense attorney, John Hayden, requested a brief delay to allow his client time to formally retain private representation.

Judge Basden ruled that the court will pause further substantive actions until new counsel is officially on record. However, the court kept the existing trial schedule intact.

The court scheduled the next hearing, which is set to address the case’s status and pending pre-trial motions, for July 2 at 9 a.m.

Judge Elizabeth Stanley is the assigned judge for the case, and the July 2 proceeding is scheduled to take place in her courtroom.
