Foster Parent Arrested on Extensive Child Abuse Charges
A former Vancouver foster parent who housed dozens of children over a 12-year span has been arrested and faces numerous severe charges, including child molestation and rape, authorities announced.
Darold A. Slack was booked into the Clark County Jail following an investigation spearheaded by detectives from the Vancouver Police Department Children’s Justice Center.
The probe into Slack began on April 27, 2026, after police received a report of a sexual assault involving a child.
On May 1, investigators executed a search warrant at Slack’s residence, leading to his subsequent arrest.
During the course of the investigation, authorities uncovered that Slack served as a foster parent to approximately 55 children in the Vancouver area between the years 2013 and 2025.
Slack is currently facing a sweeping array of charges. According to the Vancouver Police Department, he was booked on the following:
Five counts of second-degree child molestation
Three counts of second-degree rape of a child
One count of third-degree rape
Two counts of fourth-degree assault
Two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor
Communication with a minor for immoral purposes
Due to the volume of children who passed through Slack’s care over more than a decade and the severity of the allegations, police suspect there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
The Vancouver Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding possible child abuse involving Darold Slack, or any potential victims who have not spoken with law enforcement, to reach out immediately.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have stated that no further information is being released at this time.
Our child welfare system is a mess - from family court, to CPS, to corrupt behavioral health providers. We need better support of families, especially mothers, to decrease the number of kids needing foster care, and we need much better oversight of all the entities involved. It shouldn't be so challenging to report abuse and those who file false claims of abuse should be held accountable.
It's not a lack of resources as it is a lack of commitment.
