Sequim School Board Advances Capital Projects at Monday Meeting
The Sequim School Board of Directors gathered on Monday night to tackle an agenda that included backing a new community park, advancing capital upgrades at Greywolf Elementary, and honoring outgoing staff.
The meeting, which began at 5:30 p.m., ran with no members of the community stepping forward for public comment.
Infrastructure Improvements
The board voted to formally support the City of Sequim’s grant application for the new Ruth C. McChord Park.
The grant aims to provide retroactive reimbursement to the city for purchasing a parcel designated for the future community park.
Located strategically near the school district campus, senior housing, and local neighborhoods, the park project is designed to protect local Garry oak habitats and strengthen the community’s connection to the Olympic Discovery Trail.
The board also prioritized safety and accessibility by approving the allocation of Capital Projects Levy Funding to install a new ramp and stair system at Greywolf Elementary School.
Additionally, they approved the WIAA Annual Membership Renewal for middle and high school athletics for the 2026-2027 school year.
Personnel Changes and Farewells
As the school year winds down, the district is preparing to say goodbye to several veteran educators and staff members.
The board ratified the retirements of multiple well-known district figures, including Administrator Ned Floeter, high school teacher Paul Brinkmann, elementary teacher Patrick Caron, district nurse Sonia Bittner, and high school security staff member David Toman.
Several resignations were also approved, including those of teachers Vanessa Grant, Andrea McCrorie, and Sonny Mundell.
Looking Ahead
With the end of the school year and graduation fast approaching, the board reminded the community of a few critical upcoming dates: Memorial Day on May 25 (No School), Sequim High School Graduation on June 5, and the last day of school (early release) on June 11.
