Sequim School Board Will Address Staff Departures Tomorrow Night
Tomorrow night, the Sequim School District Board of Directors will hold its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room.
The meeting will cover a variety of administrative topics, with the Consent Agenda featuring several notable personnel changes as the 2025-2026 school year nears its conclusion.
The Human Resources agenda lists seven certificated separations. Among those stepping down are elementary and middle school teachers Vanessa Grant, Andrea McCrorie, and Sonny Mundell, who are resigning at the end of the academic year.
The board is also set to approve the retirements of Administrator Ned Floeter, Nurse Sonia Bittner, and high school algebra teacher Paul Brinkmann, whose prior employment history in a neighboring district has been a subject of recent community interest.
As the district navigates these staffing transitions, community engagement remains a focal point.
The board’s agenda specifically outlines its Public Comment Guidelines under Section 6.01. According to the document, the total public comment period is capped at 30 minutes, with individual speakers permitted up to three minutes to address the board.
The guidelines also stipulate strict parameters for the topics that can be discussed publicly, stating: “It is not appropriate for complaints or charges about employees to be mentioned during public comment. These issues are to be addressed to the superintendent in writing.”
The agenda emphasizes that the public comment period is designated as “a time for listening, not dialogue,” noting that the board will not respond directly during the session.
Given the number of departing staff members and recent community concerns, the meeting presents a valuable opportunity for parents, students, and residents to participate in the local educational process and make their voices heard on the record.
The regular board meeting begins tomorrow, Monday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m. It is open to the public at the District Office Board Room, located at 503 N Sequim Avenue. Those attending in person are asked to enter through the auditorium door.
For community members wishing to attend virtually, the meeting will be offered via Zoom. Registration must be completed in advance, no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting. You can register for the virtual session here: Zoom Registration Link.
