It’s so much worse than this - keep going

Susie Blake's avatar

How is it Stoffer has been allowed to remain in a state level school governance position? crazy

Shennaigans's avatar

I gave the board (Olympic District) he is on now all of this information prior to them swearing him in and they just ignored me.

Annika Valkyrie's avatar

I second this!! It was a terrifying environment to grow up in. Hate to hear it’s still so bad

Jennifer's avatar

Shennaigans, I was waiting to hear from you.....

I am a 1996 SHS grad. Dave Cross tried to get my alcoholic Mother to let me move in with him and his wife my sophomore year because my Mom was moving and Mr. Cross thought "it would be better for Nikki to have stability". For weeks after that while my Mom considered the option, he bought me gifts, brought me lunch and breakfast, had me stay after class to "talk" about my home life. Hugged me, told me he could take care of me. Now at age 48 I'm realizing what all of that waas. Geeze. Fortunately my Mom said no.

Nikki, the roaches hiding places are being exposed because people have a place to tell about it. Thank you for your story.

WE NEED TO GET CONTROL OF CLALLAM COUNTY GREMLINS

Reading your article I started out with, what the hell? Proceeding further, I was stupefied. Then came STOFFER and I was horrified! He’s still actively flying under the radar and doing the same thing with the same immunity.

Your article certainly exposes the gremlins of the past, but the worst part is, some of those gremlins ate after midnight and are roaming our decision making systems as we speak. We HAVE to quit feeding the gremlins. It’s time to starve them to death.

Stoffer needs to be removed from the OESD board https://www.oesd114.org/about-oesd/

Mr Boushey used to make the girls in his class so uncomfortable. We all would zip up our hoodies before his class because he used to walk around behind us trying to look down our shirts.

My daughter left Brinkmans class after a few weeks because he made her feel so uncomfortable.

There was an elementary teacher named Mrs. Riggs who was extremely combative towards students as well. My daughter used to come home from her 3rd grade class and tell me about her flying off the handle. I heard she was fired for a similar reason- but I'm not sure on the details.

Reading this I couldn't help but think how every student in the district suffered from the lies and cover ups and protection of the very people hired to protect and teach them. All the time and money that could have been used to further the education of the kids . It is hideous that this continues to happen seemingly everywhere .

Sure explains the request for a personal security guard. Scared of mama and papa bear showing up.

Now you have to get into the cover up of 2017 with Justine Wagner and Tyler Dean

Sequim School District loves throwing students under the bus. Ask them about the time in 2001 when I was homeless and went to them, begging the assistant principal for help, only for them to not even bother calling the cops or child welfare on the parents who had kicked me out at the age of 16. Later they even assigned me Saturday school for infractions directly related to the neglect and abandonment while refusing to intervene.

L Mac's avatar

It’s more about how people respond when others are speaking out, raising 🚩, going to the school board to bring up actual real situations… Sequim values silence and conformity (like most small towns) and this is the perfect environment for pedos and psychopaths and narcissists to thrive.

Thank you very much for your great efforts here, Patriot Anthony Tomashefsky~!

This is an outstanding article that well outlines the real problem of abuses by all too many in the field of education! This has been going on for a great many decades~! Thankfully, most teachers and others in the educational field are not criminally abusive to the students, however there is in fact a shockingly large number of those who are. Those criminals seek positions where they can abuse their limited power to do harm to the most vulnerable students and by extension America itself. The reason why these problems are covered up and many times these criminal abusers are simply "transferred" elsewhere, is that within the teaching and administrative setting it is well known that there is an endemic problem that is too large for them to handle without bringing the wrath of the taxpayers and angry parents upon them and the entire educational system. The educational system in the US is one of "underhanded crony protectionism" and corrupt Unions that intentionally contribute to the problems in a great many ways... Back in the early 1970's I was in high school and it was blatantly obvious and well known by the students which teachers were physically and/or mentally abusive. Of course, just as is true today, many students and adults are absolutely clueless about the problems because they have no sense of situational awareness and therefore, they are TOTALLY Ignorant of them until these issues are brought into the public light where they can be seen by even the least Intelligent and least aware Individual~! In my high school there was a well-known lesbian gym teacher/coach who sexually targeted the young girls in high school during the "sleepovers" that they attended in her home. There was even a male gym teacher/coach who was caught having sex with a young girl at school in his classroom during a class break. The head coach of the football team physically beat one of the high school students up so badly that his hands were bloodied, and thankfully the student was in full football gear that saved him from serious injury or death~! I witnessed MANY bullying incidents from the teaching staff in junior and especially high school, that definitely sent the message to the students that they were victims of an out-of-control society with MANY criminals just looking for victims~! These days, the children who are prescribed these most dangerous mood-altering drugs because they have been victimized & traumatized by these criminals in the educational system, are the very ones who are most likely to engage in these most violent and deadly acts on school campuses that have been occurring over the past 20 years BECAUSE abused humans will eventually strike out when they are pushed too far by a system that is never there for them~! Your good work here is FAR more important than you may currently know but again thank you because the future of our society and country is at stake~! We deal with these problems with common-sense now, or we will be forced to deal with even bigger problems in the near and distant future~!

Sincerely, Mike

Sequim has been covering up since at least the mid-80s. Now look into the Textor family and how they were protected and promoted.

Kristin's avatar

Stoffer was a train wreck during his stint with the commissioners but this is a full blown deal breaker and should be!

Susie Blake's avatar

He is on the regional OESD board still.

Kristin's avatar

What is OESD?

Also may not be for much longer now after this. Thinking folks will be screaming for him to be removed.

Shennaigans's avatar

I gave them all of this information prior to him being sworn in and was completely ignored. No one cares.

Kristin's avatar

I think they will now. Not because they grew a pair but because he is a hot potato to touch now that it is fully public.

Susie Blake's avatar

How is Stoffer still on the OESD board with even more power over children's education???

JEEEEZE! Where do they FIND all of these d-bags!? Dave Cross and Dave Trapp... yeah, that tracks. I graduated from Sequim High in 1989. They were both there. Creepy choir teacher and an a-hole gym teacher. I didn't like either. Of course, they would not have DARED to mess with me, they knew I was too smart for that. If Cross reached out to put his arm around my shoulder I recoiled. I didn't have Trapp, but the guys said he was a jerk. He was flat-out abusive back then. I was only there for 3 years and I didn't grow up in Sequim, having moved from the "Eastside".

It was supposed to be such a nice, quiet little town.

Now, almost 40 years of living in Sequim, I am appauled at everything that is going on. It's being ruined here.

Holly's avatar

Yup I had Trapp: an eccentric jerk with a reputation for saying weird and sometimes sexually inappropriate things to students. Had my suspicions about Cross while I was Fosket's TA.

JM's avatar

Trapp used to have student gatherings at his house. Amongst us boys, it was well known where to find his porn stash in the garage.

Holly's avatar

That's absolutely nuts. I'm surprised anyone would even want to go over to his house, he could be so mean!

JM's avatar

You had to if you wanted to keep your NHS membership.

Holly's avatar

that makes so much sense in retrospect...

BRENDA HINES's avatar

I honestly stopped at the first case for now.As it,in itself is so shocking, so terrible,( for his victims especially of course) I find it difficult to process. How brazen of a predator/ teacher. How tragic for his victims.

Must be a slow news day. There doesn’t appear to be any serious, studied approach to this article - just a regurgitation of old articles.

Reaching back decades to connect old events is pretty weak, especially when leadership has completely turned over and the educators involved have long since retired.

These matters have been long since litigated. There is no reference to current policy as well— which is already public on the district’s website. No attempt at comparison to other districts in the region or state. Over a span this long, any institution will unfortunately have its share of bad actors, and this one-sided narrative fails to show that these incidents are outside the norm.

This feels like low-grade spear throwing at a time when there isn’t any real contention. Try again, or move on.

Stacy YM's avatar

Nice try, Diddy.

Jennifer's avatar

Sara, "outside the norm" ??? It appears more like history repeating itself. Your comment is more in tune with sweeping things under the rug. Was justice served? Reread the article with your eyes wide open, your "bad actors" theory is not acceptable nor any percentage thereof. Your argument is weak.

Sara's avatar

“Outside the norm” is exactly the point—if you’re going to argue this is a repeating pattern, then show that with current evidence, current leadership, and current policy comparisons, not just a sweep of old history. What’s your best argument here—it must be in the water?

Holding today’s district accountable for yesterday’s roster doesn’t prove anything; recasting decades-old events across multiple administrations as though they define the district today is weak analysis. If justice was served in the past, that matters; if it wasn’t, say so plainly—but don’t pretend a one-sided retelling proves the whole institution is amiss.

Sara, Anthony wrote "In reality, the district spent decades looking the other way. What began in the 1990s as a failure to monitor predators eventually hardened into a sophisticated retaliatory machine"

There is a learning curve of abuse of power...if not questioned or investigated, it continues and gets more powerful.

His article does give current abuses, and cover ups so we need to question current policies.

There are also personal testimonies given here.

For some reason you are angry about this article. His article is impressive, very professional and well laid out. I'm not going to argue back and forth with you. Reread what you wrote and reread what he wrote.

PS Anthony did not say "the whole institution is amiss" he pointed out what areas and people are amiss that have allowed abuses.

Maybe this will help. It covers the same type area https://www.ccwatchdog.com/p/a-culture-of-silence-how-the-sequim

Sara's avatar

Fair enough on not arguing back and forth.

I’ll just note that the article’s dots spanning the 1990s to now don’t truly connect into one seamless pattern when you factor in the decades, full staff/admin turnover, and policy shifts in between.

Current abuses deserve scrutiny (and I agree policies should always be questioned), but retrofitting old cases across eras risks blurring distinct issues rather than sharpening focus on what’s happening today.

The high-school prank was very nuanced and covered by the Clallam County prosecutor in an interview on KSQM (https://soundcloud.com/user-609625302/sets/special-guests).

CC Watchdog unfortunately lacks credibility, as much of his content relies heavily on speculation and hearsay rather than reliable journalistic standards. Like this author, his content thrives by inflaming vs. providing objective material.

Sara, fair enough, back to you and thank you for that. I don't agree that CC Watchdog nor Olympic Herald do not hold credibility. The proof is in your own research to verify it in your mind. I'm just glad you are being engaged, it is more than most people do. Keep questioning, but also keep researching. ; )

Does anyone remember the bomb threat of shs in 2004? I am trying to find information on that.

Just adding to the millions of reasons I homeschool my kids.
