Corrections
We work hard to get things right — and when we get something wrong, we say so. Correcting the record quickly, clearly, and without excuses is part of the pact we make with our readers.
Our policy
We correct errors promptly and prominently. When we learn of a factual error — a wrong number, a misspelled name, a misattributed quote, or anything else — we fix it as soon as possible, whether the story ran yesterday or years ago. There is no statute of limitations on getting it right.
We say what changed. Corrected stories carry a clearly labeled correction note explaining what was wrong and what the accurate information is. We don't quietly rewrite history. Significant corrections are also listed in the log on this page.
Corrections, clarifications, and updates are different things. A correction fixes a factual error. A clarification adds precision to something that was accurate but potentially confusing or incomplete. An update adds new information as a story develops. We label each accordingly.
We correct on every platform where the error appeared — including our newsletter and social media posts, not just the website.
