Tips
The Olympic Herald depends on people who see something the public should know about. If you have information about waste, misconduct, or the workings of a public institution in Washington State, we want to hear from you. Choose the channel that fits how sensitive your information is.
Before you send anything sensitive
No method is 100% secure. If your tip could put you at risk, do not use a work device, work account, or work network, and use the secure channel below rather than ordinary email. We protect our sources and never reveal the identity of anyone who contacts us in confidence without their consent.

For tips, leads, and story ideas that aren't sensitive. Tell us the who, what, when, and where — and attach documents if you have them.
Confidential
Reach us securely
One channel, properly protected. Send documents, records, or what you know — from a personal device, on a personal connection.
Encrypted email
Email us from a Proton Mail account for end-to-end encryption. Avoid using a work email address.

What makes a good tip
- Cover the basics: who, what, when, where, why, and how.
- Include documents or evidence where you can — records, emails, memos, photos.
- Tell us how you learned the information and how we might verify it.
- Explain why it matters and why the public should care now.
What to expect
- We read every tip, but we can't respond to all of them.
- Investigations take time — you may hear back days or weeks later.
- If we follow up, we may ask for more detail or documentation.
- To confirm you're really speaking with us, ask and we'll verify our identity.
