The Sequim School Board will hold a public hearing tonight on the district's 2026-2027 budget, with budget-related public comments accepted.

A budget workshop begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The meeting is open to the public and offered virtually via Zoom; remote attendees are asked to register in advance. In-person attendees should enter through the auditorium door.

During the hearing, the board president will open the floor for public comment on the budget before closing the hearing.

Also on the agenda are two resolutions tied to the Helen Haller Elementary project: Resolution 13-2025/2026, concerning the Helen Haller beam, and Resolution 14-2025/2026, a declaration of intent to construct, which the agenda notes is a state requirement for the district to receive School Construction Assistance Program funding.

Directors will also consider approving the district's 2026-2027 Minimum Basic Educational Compliance.

The board is scheduled to hear the Bond Oversight Committee's annual report from chair Seth Wilhelm, a facilities update from Director Santos, a Shiso Sister City update from Director Halvorsen and a report from Superintendent Nickels.

The consent agenda includes roughly $1.8 million in vouchers, July payroll and a list of personnel actions ahead of the new school year, including the rehiring of returning certificated staff and the hiring of Rachel Summers as director of special services effective Aug. 1.

A general public comment period is scheduled later in the meeting, with speakers limited to three minutes each.
