A man arrested Thursday after a reported confrontation involving a rifle in Forks later punched a corrections deputy during booking at the Clallam County Jail, the Clallam County Sheriff’s office said.
Elijah Jackson also allegedly backed a vehicle carrying three other adults and young children into a Forks police patrol vehicle before his arrest.
None of the children were injured, and the corrections deputy sustained minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brent Basden ordered Jackson released Friday on the charges stemming from the Forks investigation.
Jackson remained in the Clallam County Jail pending arraignment Monday, October 19, on a separate felony custodial-assault charge, the agency said.
According to the sheriff's office, Forks officers responded about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 15, to a report that a man had pointed a rifle at several people following a dispute at a residence in the Forks area.
Jackson left in a vehicle when officers attempted to contact him, the agency said. The children riding in the vehicle ranged in age from approximately 3 to 10.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to help Forks officers locate and stop the vehicle. It eventually stopped near Sol Duc Way and Forks Avenue, where Jackson backed into a Forks police patrol vehicle, the agency said. Officers then took him into custody.
A search of Jackson and the vehicle turned up a hunting rifle and drug paraphernalia, according to the release. The children were released to their mother.
The sheriff’s office said Jackson was booked on offenses including first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, felony harassment, second-degree malicious mischief, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs and attempting to elude a police vehicle.
The agency also listed unlawful carrying of a weapon capable of bodily harm, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest among the booking offenses.
During booking at the county jail, Jackson allegedly punched a corrections deputy in the face, prompting the additional custodial-assault booking, the sheriff’s office said.
The original incident remained under investigation by Forks police and the sheriff’s office. The La Push Police Department and National Park Service also assisted.
